Harare Holds "Strength of Youth" Conference

Leading the event were co-leaders, Mirirai Rwanyanya and Spencer Bandi.

At mid-week the youth gathered in the school’s assembly hall to listen to Elder Walter Chatora of the Third Quorum of the Seventy teach them Gospel principles.

Also, Rumbidzai Chasinda shared how regular reading of the Book of Mormon had blessed her life.

One of the speakers was Harare Zimbabwe Mission President, T. Jackson Mkhabela, assisted by his wife, Dorah.  They taught from the manual, Preach My Gospel, Chapter three, explaining how youth can open their mouths and share the Gospel. (1)  President Mkhabela taught steps to successful sharing preparation which included:

1.  Explain - read and discuss key doctrines and principles.
2.  Demonstrate – provide personal demonstrations and point out specific skills and principles that will        benefit the investigator.
3.  Practice – Practice how you will teach the investigator you have scheduled a lesson with.
4.  Evaluate – Discuss what you feel will benefit the investigator.
5.  Practice

Four youth volunteered to demonstrate this process, and were mentored by the mission president. President Mkhabela stressed that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is simple.  The missionary message is that God loves us and he has a plan.  Families are a vital part of that plan.  Jesus Christ, God’s son, came to earth, established his church, and suffered the Atonement for our sins.  After his death, apostasy caused loss of many of the plain and precious parts of his Gospel.   The message of the restoration of the Gospel through the prophet, Joseph Smith, teaches faith, repentance, baptism by immersion, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.  As these things are taught simply and in order, the investigator can be touched by the Spirit, which leads to commitment.  The youth can be great examples by the way they live their lives and “open their mouths” to share the good news of the Gospel.
